Growing Old

She welcomed me with special warmth

FRIDAY HARBOR — The 126-foot main mast of a schooner often seen in Port Townsend, Victoria and the San Juan Islands snapped while sailing near the San Juans on Saturday.
Two passengers were injured in the afternoon incident aboard the 86-year-old Zodiac, a Coast Guard spokesman said Saturday night.
An eyewitness reported that 22 schoolchildren were aboard for a day sail in clear and sunny conditions when its main mast broke in half and fell across the port side.
The Coast Guard responded to a distress call from the Bellingham-based charter vessel about 2 p.m.
The 127-foot, double-masted schooner was just north of Lummi Island, and the Coast Guard launched an MH065 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station/Sector Field Office Port Angeles as well as two 33-foot response boats out of Bellingham.

A day in La Conner

Friday we went to La Conner and had a good time

walking around the shops

This is called the Rainbow Bridge

This is Nasty Jacks they have lots of old oak furniture

that I just love

Very cool bench

Nice water fall off of the deck

The little blue house is shaped like a boat and you can rent it for

the night or a weekend. I think it would be fun.

We had a wonderful dinner on a boat with my sons father and his sweet wife.

It was a great day

This is my friend Dot I have posted about her before

She it the lady that makes 90-100 lap and baby size quilts

a year for charity and knits hats and mittens too.

She is 82 and very active. The new header is her
front yard no grass just Lupins

Now she needs lots and lots of Prayers she has been

told she has cancer and has to have radiation and kemo

baby. The big ones are a whopping 3 feet tall.

They are soooo cute

Last Sunday we had tours on the Zodiac and we had 577 visitors.

I met one of my FB friends her daughter took this picture of

her and me and her family.

The Zodiac had her flags flying

I am trying to catch up on a few things around the house.

Still in April -- The Winery

This is the winery we went to It was way up on a hill.

Pamela and I had a glass of wine.

I would loved to have that purple T-shirt with the group therapy

wine glasses on it but I thought $42.00 was a little to much.

The tulips were outstanding and I really like the rocks that are covered

the red flora I don't know what it is but it was very pretty

This old cannon was very cool.

Looking over the valley

I don't know what this is used for it looks like an old carriage house,

but I love the rock work.

And my sweet daughter is (King) Queen of the hill

It was a great visit.

We went to Riverside Park where the worlds fair was

and we ran with the metal people

I helped a person in a wheelchair

We took this to say Hello to are neighbors to the north

Pamela and Steve scarfed down a Funnel cake with

strawberries and whipped cream

I was good I didn't have any.

First there was Easter

then on the 10th and 11th I went on a two day training cruse

Then Mom turned 92 on the 12th

On the 13th I took the train to Spokane and kissed a buffalo

with my daughter

and hugged a moose

and got new upper dentures I had my other ones for 30

years and they were worn down to nothing

Now I can smile and show teeth(LOL)

I was in Spokane for 5 days and had a very nice visit with

my daughter and Steve.

A Saturday of fun and work

I worked on the Zodiac Yesterday and when I had finished a job

I was doing I went to Richard to be assigned another. He ask me if I knew

what Baggywrinkles were. Do you know what they are? I could have said

"sure I have a few "but I didn't say that.(LOL)

The above are Baggywrinkles.

"Chafing gear on standing rigging to prevent sail wear. It looks like great wrappings

of wool from a distance,but is made from bits of rope"

I learned how to do this.

The tide was low so I could see the muscles and barnacles in the

pilings

There was allot of white painting being done yesterday

First it Had to be cleaned then sanded then cleaned again. You can see Richard

back there with the vacuum.

The white painting is complete and next Sat. the plastic winter wrap is

coming off and then the caterpillar will become----------------

I broke my glasses,My mom fell off her bed she was not hurt,but

she could not get up. I just had a giggling fit when I wrote that.

Spring is busting out all over

Is it really only February? I looked out my back window and

saw something pink so I grabbed my camera and went to

take a look and much to my surprise there were thing

popping up all over the place.

The Tiger Lilies were sprouting and the Rhodie's had blooms on them.

TheAzaleas had little buds.The neighbors crocus are blooming.

I think the little green things are mini daffodils and I don't know what

the other green flower is.

I just hope they aren't going to be fooled by Mother Nature.

Yesterday I had a new and interesting experience. I signed up for a work

party on my favorite ship the Zodiac.This is her in her winter cocoon

We were working inside to turn her into a butterfly.

This is a spar I sanded the whole thing

This is another one I got to varnish this one.

We had a friendly visitor he belongs to one of the crew.

We made things very shiny

We had a wonderful lunch this is the cook and one of the crew

We had African Peanut Soup and sandwiches coleslaw and cookies

Yesterday I went to my strength training it was a beautiful day

blue skies 50 degrees at 9:00 in the morning

way to Seattle his dad ( previous post) was in the hospital with

chest pains.He is going to be OK. They are doing more tests today.

To day is my oldest son John's Birthday he is 55 and

Yesterday we had cake and ice cream and a very special

surprise for the first time in his life he had his mother and dad

This is my second attempt at working with my wonderful

photo shop all though it was made almost the same way as the

other one I did learn a few new things.

Day before yesterday we went to a big box store and there were a few minutes

of a little tiny bit of blue sky

It didn't last long we are back to rain,Well it is the Pacific North West
you say and you are right,but some years are wetter then others and

it seems to me this one is WET

and a Trazillion Vitamins.

In case you haven't guessed I hate Big Box Stores.

Photo Shop -- My First Picture

My son and his wife gave me Photo shop for Christmas

And I have spent a lot of time figuring out how to use it

so far I can move pictures into it and tag them. I also learned how to

make the tags stay where they belong..

As far as learning I think I am still in kindergarten .

I made the above it does look kinda amateurish,but it was fun.

I have been trying to figure out the layers and textures.

I hope I graduate to first grade in a few days

Thank you for all of your kind words and thoughts on my last post

they really made me feel like somebody out there loves me.

The Blues and Rain

I am sorry I haven't posted for a few days I think I have been in a mental

fetal position.

Yesterday I decided to see what I could do about it,so I took a shower

got dressed and went to my strength training class

While I was waiting for the bus I took a few pictures

I decided that between my blue mood that happens around

this time of year and the weather being so dreary,I was not going

to let them win so I told them to go away.

I use to have a sign up in the kitchen when the kids were growing up that said

"You are responsible for what happens to you"

They still remember that sign.

I can't do any thing about the weather out side,but I can brighten up the inside

so that is what I am doing.

My Sister's son sent this to me just after she passed away she like to send me doggie things I thought I would share.

Thought everyone should know about this

dog and his story.

Especially like the ending ....... A Pet'sTen Commandments..........

The K9 above is Brutus, a military K9 at McChord.

He's huge - part Boxer and part British Bull Mastiff and tops the scales at 200 lbs. His handler took the picture. Brutus is running toward me because he knows I have some Milk Bone treats, so he's slobbering away! I had to duck around a tree just before he got to me in case he couldn't stop, but he did. Brutus won the Congressional Medal of Honor last year from his tour in Iraq . His handler and four other soldiers were taken hostage by insurgents. Brutus and his handler communicate by sign language and he gave Brutus the signal that meant 'go away but come back and find me'. The Iraqis paid no attention to Brutus. He came back later and quietly tore the throat out of one guard at one door and another guard at another door. He then jumped against one of the doors repeatedly (t he guys were being held in an old warehouse) until it opened He went in and untied his handler and they all escaped. He's the first K9 to receive this honor. If he knows you're ok, he's a big old lug and wants to sit in your lap. Enjoys the company of cats.

This lovely dog was in training to find bombs the trainer said I

It was cold but the wind wasn't blowing so it was nice.

It was dark and cloudy and felt like snow.

After 34 years in Fairhaven around the property of the old Bob’s Southside Service station, the railroad cars are leaving. Two today and the last one on Monday. Pennsylvania bound to be placed in an old RR theme park. A huge crane picked them up - very carefully - and placed them on this over sized semi. They are taken to Burlington, about 20 miles south of Fairhaven, where they will be prepared for their trip east and placed on RR flatcars for the trip across country. Over the years this car had several businesses, the last being Boo’s Grooming Service up to a couple years ago

I took these pictures from the Fairhaven web page,but I thought I would share what they did in my favorite part of town. I wonder what they will put where the train cars were.

A once upon a time story

Long ago and far away,a young girl met a handsome sailor and he sailed away.He told the young

girl when he returned he would take her sailing.

A miss communication between their mothers and he never knew that she was going to have a baby.

His son grew up and had a son that he lost track of.

Well about 2/12 years ago the son was reunited with his son and then 10 months ago
the son found his father .

It was a very happy time for all three of them

They were all so happy to have found each other.

The young girl is so happy to see the smile on the sons face.

Although the girl is not young now when she sees how happy they all are she feels young again.

She is sure they will live happily ever after.

Of course there is more to this story.more family more kids

but this is about the reuniting of the three boys that are now

Fathers, Grandfathers , and Great Grandfathers.

This is my Mother she is 92.

she is in a assisted living home.

She remembers a longtime a go,

but some time she forgets yesterday.

Today I have to go tell about her second daughter

my sweet sister.

Some people say we shouldn't tell her,but I think she should

My sister Dorothy Passed away Yesterday about 2:00

in the afternoon

All of the puppies in her lap she had for over 18 years

one at a time she lost them.

I like to think she now playing with them again on

an oasis in the dessert she loved.

Fire at Whatcom Middle School

I am behind again on my comments.The day before yesterday

the power company had our power off for 6 hours while they

installed new poles some where close.

Yesterday the wind had the power down for about 5 hours.

Then yesterday one of the oldest

schools in town caught fire at one in the morning.

Here is a collage of the fire and some of the brave firemen.

The kids are going to be out of school for a few days while they decide

where to send them.

They don't know how it started yet.

So I had to run outside in my nightgown to capture it.

It was 35 degrees but I think it was worth it.

The sun continued to rise and it was so pretty

Autumn at Lake Padden

On the way home from my strength training class today I went

over to Lake Padden to see the fall colors.

It was pretty awesome so I thought I would share

It was foggy and misty but I liked it any way

Even the reeds in the water had lots of color

The water was clear and the reflections are great.

This little guy was just sitting and grooming while I

was there.

My day in the Kitchen

I think I went a little crazy in the kitchen today.

These are my home made noodles drying

Then I baked it. It turned out great.

I made home made chicken soup with my home made noodles.

WWU and Mother

I made this for my Mother she is in an assisted living home.

Sometimes she is upset because she thinks she is in jail.

So I try to make her very nice room more homey.

I am going to print it then frame it so she can have it on her wall.

She graduated in 1965 from WWU when she was in her forties

and had three kids still at home.

She majored in math and taught for a while then went back to the

telephone co.She retired from there.

Up date on my sister

I talked to my sister last night she may get to go home

today or tomorrow. Her cancer has affected her liver.

Something called Bilirubin that should be under 0.2 were 19

They have to drain the bile from her liver,but she said she is not as

yellow as she was and she feels better.

She told me to tell all of you thank you for your prayers and good

thoughts she is sure they were a big part of her feeling better.

I thank you too.

A couple of weeks ago I received an E-Mail from someone named Blue.

I thought it might be a scam.but because I had read the same thing happened to http://chroniclesofacountrygirl.blogspot.com/ I thought I would send Blue my address and cross my fingers.

Well a couple of days ago I received a package from http://pomwonderful.com/

This is what was in it.

It is a new iced coffee drink.

I though I would try a glass. I shared it with my hubby

and we both agreed it was delicious

There is a chocolate one too,but as I am allergic to chocolate
I choose for them not to send that on to me.

I know I said I wouldn't do a collage every day,but i skipped yesterday

These are puppy's of my friends and family.

The one in the middle on the bottom is mine.

Someone had thrown her away in the park where I live.

It was Feb.14 and very cold she was hiding under my car

I couched her out with fish crackers that she still likes.

I named her Sadi. we have had her for seven years.

She still has issues with any one leaving the house. she will try to grab

a pant leg or sock any thing that will keep you from leaving.

I walked out of my strength training class into Red Square.

There were tables set up. I wondered what was going on

I hung around for a while and more people showed up.

Lots and lots more people.

There were all kinds of booth handing out information for

the returning and new students..

The Harry Potter booth caught my eye. My sister would have loved

that one

The local food Co-Op had a nice booth with lots of free samples

There were four legged students too (LOL)

The sky was blue and the sun was shinning it was a lovely day

to be on campus.
